Introduction to Probability

Probability

  • Probability is the likelihood or a chance of an event occurring.
  • Probability is also concluded as the favorable outcome among number of Outcomes.
  • Probability is a number between 0 and 1.
  • The Probability of something which is certain to happen is 1.
  • The Probability of something which is impossible to happen is 0.

Event:

An event is something that takes place.

Introduction to Probability
  • The higher the probability of an event, the more likely the event will occur.
  • More the number of tosses more the number of heads and the number of tails- and The Outcome comes closer and closer to each other.
  • This could also be done with a die, when tossed a large number of times. Number of each of the six outcomes become almost equal to each other.

    Probability of an Event:

    • The probability of an event is a number describing the chance that the event will happen.

    Introduction to Probability
    Equally likely Outcome:

    • In such cases, we may say that the different outcomes of the experiment are equally likely.
    • This means that each of the outcomes has the same chance of occurring.
    Equally likely Outcome:
